The inspiration behind Speech Tips with Spunky Monkey

Although I am a retired speech and language pathologist I still wanted to contribute to my profession. On my daily walks to Drake Sports Park, with my neighbor Lisa, who also is a retired speech and language pathologist, we started brainstorming ideas for this book. We decided zoo animals would be a metaphor for students with speech and language challenges. Soon Spunky Monkey went on a journey and met five very interesting animals. He provided speech tips and kindness and the story quickly evolved into a fun and educational book for kids, parents, educators, speech and language pathologists and social workers.
